Pennsylvania Real Estate Continuing Education

You will need to complete the following CE requirements in order to renew your real estate license in Pennsylvania.

First Renewal

During the first biennial renewal period that a licensee is required to complete CE, the licensee must complete the 14-hour post-education course developed by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission (PREC), which will satisfy its CE requirements.

Second and Subsequent Renewals

You will need hours of PREC-approved CE courses in a minimum of two hour increments. The Commission may require that all or part of these hours are to be completed in required topics such as:

  • Real Estate Ethics
  • Real Estate Financing and Mathematics
  • Property Management
  • Consumer Protection and Disclosures

If you are renewing for the second or more, you will need to complete the remaining hours of CE by taking elective courses. These can be general real estate courses, or others such as:

  • Marketing, Advertising, and Social Media Compliance
  • Breaking Barriers: Fair Housing
  • Diversity: Know Your Kaleidoscope of Clients

Note: The PREC is able to waive a licensee’s obligation to complete all of part of these CE requirements if the licensee can provide proof of their inability to satisfy the requirements due to illness, emergency, or hardship.

Inactive Pennsylvania Real Estate Agents

In Pennsylvania, an inactive status is allowed indefinitely, as long as you complete your CE requirements every two years.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to engage in any real estate sales or brokerage activity with an inactive license.

Note: You will be able to renew your license for up to five years after its expiration date by submitting a reactivation fee and the certificates for the required CE hours alongside your renewal application.

If more than five years pass since your license expires, you will no longer be able to renew it, and will instead be required to reapply in order to get your Pennsylvania real estate license.

Renew Pennsylvania Real Estate License

You will be able to renew your Pennsylvania real estate license online.

You can renew your real estate license online through Pennsylvania Licensing System. If this is your first time renewing online, you will need to register first.

We recommend that you complete your CE training at least 10 days before your license expires. This will ensure that there is enough time for it to be processed.
