New York Real Estate Continuing Education

You will need to complete the following CE requirements in order to renew your real estate license in New York.

New York Active Real Estate License Renewal

22.5 hours of New York Department of State (DOS)-approved CE courses, including:

  • Ethical business practices: At least two and a half hours
  • Recent legal matters: At least one hour
  • Fair housing and/or discrimination in the sale or rental of property: At least three hours
  • Agency law: At least two hours for first-time renewals and at least one hour for everyone else
  • Cultural competency: Two hours
  • Implicit bias Two hours

You will need to complete the remaining hours of CE by taking elective courses. These can be general real estate agent courses or courses that fall within the above categories.

Inactive New York Real Estate License

In New York, your real estate license will remain expired for one year if you fail to renew it on time.

During this time, you will still be able to renew it through eAccessNY, but you will not be able to engage in any real estate sales or broker activity.

If more than one year has passed since your license expired, you will no longer be able to renew it, and will instead be required to retake and pass your real estate exam in order to obtain your New York real estate license.

All New York real estate agents and brokers are required to renew their licenses online. There is no in-person or mailing service available.

You can renew your real estate license online through eAccessNY. You will need to log in to your account, or – if you haven’t already registered – create a new one by providing your:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Email
  • Address
  • Phone number
