If you have a real estate license in Idaho, you will need to renew it every two years in order to continue operating legitimately. This is the case regardless of whether you are a real estate agent or a broker.

The cost of renewing your Idaho real estate license will depend on whether you do this on time — or have to pay a late penalty fee — as well as whether you are a broker or a real estate agent.

Idaho Real Estate Renewal Cost

The total cost of your Idaho Real Estate License Renewal will depend on several factors, including whether you need to pay a penalty fee:

On top of this, you’ll need to add the cost of purchasing a real estate CE course, as this is a legal requirement in the state of Idaho.

Idaho Real Estate Continuing Education

You will need to complete the following CE requirements in order to renew your real estate license in Idaho.

First Time Renewals

You will need 12 hours of Idaho Real Estate Commission (IREC)-approved post-licensing education as well as 2 distinct Idaho core courses. The 12 hours of post-license education are broken down as follows:

• Mandatory post-license fundamentals course – 8 hours
• One additional post-license module of your chosing – 4 hours

Second and Subsequent Renewals

You will need 18 hours of IREC-approved CE courses, including three hours each on two unique Idaho commission core courses.

Regardless of whether you are renewing your license for the first time or not, you will need to complete the remaining hours of CE by taking up elective courses. These can be general real estate courses, or others such as:

Idaho Inactive Real Estate License Renewal

Your Idaho real estate license will become inactive for a period of one year if you fail to renew it on time.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to engage in any real estate sales or brokerage activity with an inactive license.

Note: You will be able to renew your license for up to one year after its expiration date by paying the renewal and late fees and reinstating your license.

Renew Idaho Real Estate License

You will be able to renew your Idaho real estate license online. There is no in-office or by mail service available.

Online

You can renew your real estate license online through the IREC portal. If this is your first time renewing online, you will need to register first. You can do this by providing your:

• Full legal name
• Email address
• Online password
• Social Security Number (SNN)

We recommend  that you complete your CE training at least 10 days before your license expires, as this will ensure that there is enough time for it to be processed. Having said that, you are encouraged to do it as early as possible.
