In Idaho, insurance licenses expire every two years. The expiration will be on your date of birth, biennially, based on the anniversary of your original license year. Idaho Insurance Continuing Education Requirements
The Idaho Department of Insurance requires that all insurance producers and agents complete their continuing education requirements before their expiration date. In Idaho, these requirements include:
- Twenty-four (24) total hours of Idaho insurance continuing education every renewal period, which is two (2) years
- Three (3) of those hours must be in the subject of ethics or consumer protection
Once you completed the insurance CE course, your CE course provider will send a certificate of completion to the Idaho Department of Insurance. Make sure to keep a printed copy of your certificate for your records.
It is recommended to complete all continuing education credits 30 days prior to the expiration date of the license. This will give the CE provider time to report the successful completion to the department of insurance. Your CE courses can be taken at any time within your license term.

NIPR and Sircon charges $5.60 for processing. The Idaho Department of Insurance provides no charge for processing, so it’s recommended to renew your license more than 30 days before your license expiration date.

What Happens If My Insurance License Expires In Idaho?
In Idaho, the Idaho Department of Insurance will send you via email a renewal notice within 90 days before your license expires.
There is no continuing education “grace period”. Not meeting your CE requirements prevents you from renewing your insurance license. Idaho requires the following fines for every CE hour not completed on time:
- If CE is completed within 30 days of the expiration of the license – $100
- If CE is completed between 31 and 60 days of the expiration of the license – $200
- If CE is completed between 61 and 90 days of the expiration of the license – $300
There is no penalty if CE has not been completed between 90 and 365 days, but you must re-apply and retake the pre-licensing exam as a new applicant and complete CE requirements.
If your license has not been renewed before the expiration date, you must reinstate your license. Complete the Resident Individual Reinstatement Form and send it to the Idaho Department of Insurance. The form specifies the nonrefundable penalty fees that may apply. You can also go to Sircon or NIPR to reinstate your license.
